Planned Garamba-litter spring 2012

Well, Iza has really herself chosen her partner for this litter, as she mated with him last time she was in heat, after having lured us into a false safety that she was way past her interest in males.. But Sheriff is probably a soul mate to our Iza and that might be the reason why she insisted on having his puppies that time, even though it didn't result in anything but a false pregnancy ;-)

Sheriff has been one of our favourite males for years, with his extremely good, steady and Tamio-like mentality. Sheriff's father Chango is half-brother to two of our previous used sires, Akinzo and Fåvne, and we really love the way their progeny has turned out! Combining the super showstoppers Akeron, Scout and Chango in one pedigree is intriguing and all these plus the other dogs in this combination has proved their value in breeding, showing, training and health wise.

Sheriff is a trainable, easy going soul, open and accessible.  They have many similar characteristics, and we expect these pups to be very fun pups, easy to train with skills that might make them excel in obedience, agility or tracking. Sheriff is probably one of the most versatile working Ridgebacks in Norway! Iza is a naturally obedient dog, there are very few of the things she can that I have actively trained, she just IS will to please. She is almost like a Dalmatian around horses and follows the cart when we are out driving without the need of commands.

They're both amazing with children, either in training situations, snuggled up in bed together, watch tv, go for a walk, play dress up - they're up to it if children invite! See pics below!

On the other hand these dogs are very confident, with tons of courage, curiosity and a lot of guarding instincts. Sheriff has quite a lot of hunting instincts, Iza's are low, they are both very good trackers and where Sheriff might be interested in scents from other game Iza is not. They both have high prey drive and find toys and play very rewarding, so they are easy to train and motivate.

Conformational wise, these two dogs fulfil each others strengths and weaknesses. Iza has a very good pro sternum; forechest, and an elegant neck with good setting into the back. She is a rectangular Ridgeback, longer in body and has very good proportions. She moves with ease and a very ground covering stride. Sheriff's strong back and good chest line with matching angulations will suit her well, and we also hope to see some features from their well known and famous forefathers! The size will be just perfect, neither of the pups should be anywhere but in the middle of the standard, hopefully on the lower side.

Both parents are of course healthy and free from hereditary diseases. The pups will definitely not get Degenerative Myelopathy as both parents are tested free/non carrier. 

I would love to see these pups in homes that want to work with their dogs, and probably have previous experience with the breed. This is old fashioned Ridgebacks, the full package, and I hope that they will be a lot like my first Ridgeback Tamio. There should be born quite a few liver coloured puppies in this litter, and with the colour and pigmentation of their mother and the famous Scout in their lines, there may be some stunning lover loves!

Iza was mated first week of March, puppies expected mid May.

7 puppies born May 6th, two bitches, both with kinked tails, and five males, three with kinked tails. Three stillborn, we have one bitch and three males. All ridges correct, 6 livernosed. No DS so far.
